At Authentic Voices, I understand that you are putting a lot of energy into your production and the last thing you want is to fret over the cost. My services are value-priced with the independent artist in mind. The fees and policies quoted on this page are current as of August, 2008 and are subject to change. If you have special circumstances, please don't let price keep you away ~ let's talk about how we can make your project come to life within your budget.

For straight technical work performed at our studio, Authentic Voices charges a flat rate of $40 per hour. This fee applies to set-up, recording, editing, master production, and client review sessions. My hourly rate also applies to time we spend on the phone with you or exchanging email - whenever I'm working for you, I'm working for you. I count time in 15-minute increments. Relaxation / socializing / break time is not counted unless we're talking primarily about the project, in which case that's work and not really break time. Simply stated, time spent on activity related to your project counted on your invoice. Time spent hanging out is not. Payment is due at the time service is rendered: after each recording session, at presentation of a post-edit proof, and finally in exchange for your Master.

Collaboration

If I am a full collaborator on your project, then I am no longer a simple service provider -- we are co-creators. Generally, in such cases we will negotiate compensation in two parts: fee for service for the technical work and some kind of royalty arrangement for the finished project. Each case will be considered individually. If you have a reasonable expectation of sales but little cash on hand, I may very well reduce the technical service fee (or offer a fixed price) in exchange for a greater royalty percentage... it all depends on the individual circumstance.

Alternative Payments / Barter

Authentic Voices understands that many artists simply do not have a great deal of cash on hand to spend on production. I wouldn't want this to stop you from bringing your beautiful work to the ears of the world. I will consider an exchange of goods or services in lieu of cash if we can find a mutually agreeable arrangement. Authentic Voices has accepted payment in the form of musical instruments, original artwork, pottery, and massage services, to name a few. I want to find a fair and equitable way to get your project produced and will work with you to find a way to make it happen.
